social media fatigue

On Thursday, Thanksgiving night, I was watching King 5 news. I was thinking I was only going to get updates about the shopping frenzy that was going to occur on Friday. Instead there was a small segment on social media fatigue. I had never heard the term before and tried to look for the news clip online, but was unable to find it. So I searched the internet and got a definition and use of the word. We are getting overwhelmed with social media and all of these networking sites. Even if it is a good way to keep in touch with friends and family, it is difficult to keep up with all of our accounts. I wonder if social media fatigue will cause networking sites to lose popularity.

  1. Hey Natalie,
This is interesting what you brought up about social media fatigue because this is a problem that has come up for me before. I have so many different accounts and all my user names and passwords become hard to manage. This is especially true when I am away from home and want to access my networking sites. At home I have password managers that auto-fill the boxes but when I’m away I often have trouble and have to reset my password to gain access. Everybody has their own way of managing their log-ins but there is a point for everyone when it gets too much and you are a member of too many sites to remember them all. Maybe we can expect a “spike” in the number of social networking sites that people belong to.

  2. This term is very interesting. I definitely seems like as silly as it sounds it is a valid concern. There are more and more social media sites coming out every day it seems like. It is exhausting to try to keep up with the latest sites. It seems like I just get used to and good at a site and then all the sudden a newer, “cooler” one comes out. Then I have to re-learn a new site all over again and re-find my friends on it again. I also find it difficult to remember all of my passwords and user names. So many websites require you create an account with them before you can use them. It is just ridiculous. I usually have to attempt password and user name combinations multiple times before I am successful at logging into a site. It is impossible to keep track of them all! I have locked my accounts countless times because I’ve guessed my user name and password wrong too many times. So annoying!
